Drunken faces washed out by street lights
Blurred street lights washed out by faces
And I’m afraid that what didn’t kill her
Made her angry
And as always
Secrets became lies
And lies became chains
And chains became her downfall.
But shouting apologies to the clouds
Won’t make the clouds go away.
“I hate this.”
“But you love it too.”
And it didn’t change the fact that nothing was uttered after that
Because there’s a girl who gets along with strange voices
She listens to the one that comes easier
Begin to pull yourself away from sleep
A bottle and a cigarette at sunrise
She never slept
She never liked sunrise either
It was like a knife in the gut
It was ugly.
Because it was too pretty to be real.
And it’s funny how a million houses
Will never be homes
And there will be nothing but drowning girls
And slammed doors
And bitter silence
Shared between people who don’t understand.
And a million friends
Will only be figments of our imaginations
And hugs and handshakes are just the façade before the betrayal
"You’re going to lose your mind if you keep letting it off the leash."
"Why put a leash on something that’ll just drag you across the concrete and
Through the dirt?"
It’ll chew right through it
Then keep devouring anything else that gets in its way
And our greatest enemies, my friend
Are our own minds
Because we can’t get rid of them, now can we?
The thing you love is killing you
The thing you’re trying to get out of is holding you
You’re its only friend
So drunken cigarettes swimming in their own smoke
Are not monsters
Because they never leave
And friends aren’t supposed to leave,
